What to Wear to an Interview

The moment you step inside the room for your job interview, you should be able to make a good impression. They say that first impressions are made in less than ten seconds. The most surprising part is that half of that impression is based on nonverbal cues, like the way you carry yourself and how you dress. So, it is equally important to impress the interviewer with the things you say and with the way you dress.

To have a clear idea on what to wear for your interview, know what kind of industry the company is part of. If the company has a website, check whether they have a dress code. This is very important especially when you’re living in foreign country. Some countries have a different dress code for summer. Japanese companies for example don’t require their employees to wear a tie and a suit jacket in the office. Not only is it more comfortable for the staff, but it also helps save energy.

If you really don’t have any chance of knowing what the company’s dress code is, then wear a business suit. You can always remove your jacket once you’ve noticed you’re overdressed anyway.

Fashion Advice

If you’re interviewing in the creative industry, show your personality through your choice of clothes. If you’re applying for an advertising firm, don’t be afraid to wear something that’s not too formal. Look effortlessly fashionable by wearing a white collared shirt, a grey cardigan, dark trousers and sexy black pumps. Remember to wear trousers that fit well. I usually shop at Oasis for trousers ’cause they fit me really well. Plus, I always find amazing Oasis discount codes online, which gives me a really good value for my money.

If you have an interview for a fashion magazine, make sure to match your style with theirs. If you and the interviewer have a similar taste in fashion, there’s a big chance you might get the job. Also, do not even attempt to wear fake products. It’s so much better to wear an unknown but stylish brand than a fake one.

Conservative industries like accounting, law and finance offices, prefer a much simpler look. This does not mean you can’t look fashionable, though. You can look chic by wearing a white collared shirt, a pair of pearl earrings, black pumps and a black suit. To complete that look, carry a black or any-dark colored bag.

Posture

Having the right outfit is not enough to make a good impression. If you tend to slouch, avoid doing it. Having good posture is a sign of confidence and can give you plus points on body language.

All the best on your interview!
